Notes on Revelation

Ezekiel 1:5

Signs Employed:

Ezekiel 1:5
"Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; they had the likeness of a man."

702 'arba'; masculine 'arba'ah; from 7251; four;--four.

7251 raba'; a primitive root [rather identical with 7250 through the idea of sprawling "at all fours" (or possibly the reverse is the order, of derivation); compare 702]; properly to be four (sided); used only as denominative of 7253; to be quadrate:-- (four-) square (-d).

7250 raba'; a primitive root: to squat or lie out flat, i.e. (specifically) in copulation:--let gender, lie down.

7253 reba'; from 7251; a fourth (part or side):--fourth part, side, square.


2416 chay; from 2421; alive; hence raw (flesh); fresh (plant, water, year), strong; also (as noun, especially in the feminine singular and masculine plural) life (or living thing), whether literally or figuratively:-- + age, alive, appetite, (wild) beast, company, congregation, life (-time), live (-ly), living (creature, thing), maintenance, + merry, multitude, + (be) old, quick, raw, running, springing, troop.

2421 chayah; a primitive root [compare 2331, 2421]; to live, whether literally or figuratively; causatively to revive:--keep (leave, make) alive, x certainly, give (promise) life, (let, suffer to) live, nourish up, preserve (alive), quicken, recover, repair, restore (to life), revive, (x God) save (alive, life, lives), x surely, be whole.

2331 chavah; a primitive root; [compare 2324, 2421]; properly, to live; by implication (intensive) to declare or show:--show

appearance; THEY

1992 hem; or hemmah; masculine plural from 1931; they (only used when emphatic):--it, like, x (how, so) many (soever, more as) they (be), (the) same, x so, x such, their, them, these, they, those, which, who, whom, withal, ye.

1931 hiy'; a primitive word, the third person pronoun singular, he (she or it); only expressed when emphatic or without a verb; also (intensively) self, or (especially with the article) the same; sometimes (as demonstrated) this or that; occasionally (instead of copula) as or are:--he, as for her, him (-self), it, the same, she (herself), such, that (... it), these, they, this, those, which (is), who.

had the likeness of a MAN.

120 'adam; from 119; ruddy, i.e. a human being (an individual or the species, mankind, etc.):-- x another, + hypocrite, + common sort, x low, man (mean, of low degree), person.

119 'adam; to show blood (in the face), i.e. flush or turn rosy:--be (dyed, made) red (ruddy).
