Ezekiel 1:7b

Random comments from Ronni, on Ezekiel 1:7:

The Bible Companion says that "straight" is indicating that they were unjointed. They didn't move by walking, so therefore they didn't need joints.

We also see this "straight theme" (if you will) morally in other verses:

(Prov 15:21 KJV) "Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly."

The same word for "straight" can also be translated as "direct."

(Prov 3:6 KJV) "In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

So, the Cherubim didn't move by walking, but were directed by the Spirit (vs. 12) and thus God is asking us to do the same. Be straight, and let Him direct our paths. We have a physical representation through Ezekiel's vision of what God is asking of us. That's cool.

Hmm... does God dislike "crookedness?" Is crooked less perfect than straight? We know in moral terms, crooked depicts unrighteousness, as straight depicts righteousness. We have a physical representation of this as well:

(Job 26:13 KJV) "By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; his hand hath formed the crooked serpent."

So God will straighten out the crooked:

(Luke 3:5 KJV) "Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth;"

(Isa 42:16 KJV) "And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them."

Do all cherubim look like this or is it just these four? The ones on the mercy seat didn't have the four faces did they? Satan used to be cherubim, so what does he look like?
