GENESIS 12:1
JPS 12:1 Now the LORD said unto Abram: 'Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto the land that I will show thee.
ONK 12:1 And the Lord said to Abram, Go thou away from thy country, and from the house of thy father, to the land which I will show thee.
PAL 12:1 And the Lord said to Abram, Go thou from thy land; separate thyself from thy kindred; go forth from the house of thy father; go into the land which I will show thee.
 
GENESIS 12:2
JPS 12:2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and be thou a blessing.
ONK 12:2 And I will make thee to (be) a great people, and will bless thee, and magnify thy name, and thou shalt be blessed.

GENESIS 12:3
JPS 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and him that curseth thee will I curse; and in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed.'

GENESIS 12:4
JPS 12:4 So Abram went, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him; and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.
ONK 12:4 And Abram went away, according as the Lord had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was a son of seventy and five years in his forthgoing from Charan.
PAL 12:4 And Abram went, according as the Lord had spoken with him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was the son of seventy and five years at his going forth from Haran.
 
GENESIS 12:5
JPS 12:5 And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.
ONK 12:5 And Abram took Sara his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all the possessions which they possessed, and the souls whom they had made subject to the law in Charan, and went forth to go into the land of Kenaan; and they came unto the land of Kenaan.

GENESIS 12:6
JPS 12:6 And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Shechem, unto the terebinth of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land.
ONK 12:6 And Abram traversed through the land unto the place of Shekim(60) unto the plain of Moreh;(61) and the Kenaanah was then in the land.
PAL 12:6 And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Shekem, unto the plain which had been showed. And the Kenaanites were then in the land; for the time had not yet come that the sons of Israel should possess it.
JER 12:6 The plain (or valley) of vision.
 
GENESIS 12:7
JPS 12:7 And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said: 'Unto thy seed will I give this land'; and he builded there an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.
ONK 12:7 And the Lord revealed Himself unto Abram, and said, To thy sons will I give this land. And he builded there an altar before the Lord who had been revealed to him.
PAL 12:7 And the Lord was revealed unto Abram, and said, To thy sons will I give this land. And he builded there an altar before the Lord, who was revealed to him.
 
GENESIS 12:8
JPS 12:8 And he removed from thence unto the mountain on the east of Beth-el, and pitched his tent, having Beth-el on the west, and Ai on the east; and he builded there an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.
ONK 12:8 And he ascended from thence to the mountain east of Beth El, and spread out his tabernacle, having Beth El on the west and Ai on the east; and he builded there an altar before the Lord, and prayed in the name of the Lord.
PAL 12:8 And he went up from thence to a mountain which was eastward of Bethel, and outspread his tent, having Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; and he builded there an altar before the Lord, and prayed in the Name of the Lord.

JPS 12:9 And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the South.

JPS 12:10 And there was a famine in the land; and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was sore in the land.

JPS 12:11 And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife: 'Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon.
ONK 12:11 And it was that as he drew nigh to enter Mizraim he said to Sara his wife, Behold, now I know that thou art a woman beautiful in sight;
PAL 12:11 And it was, as he approached to enter the limit of Mizraim, and they had come to the river, and were uncovering their flesh to pass over, that Abram said to Sara his wife, Behold, until this I have not beheld thy flesh; but now I know that thou art a woman of fair aspect.
 
GENESIS 12:12
JPS 12:12 And it will come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they will say: This is his wife; and they will kill me, but thee they will keep alive.
ONK 12:12 and it will be that when the Mizraee see thee they will say, This is his wife; and they will kill me, and thee will they reserve.
PAL 12:12 It will be, therefore, when the Mizraee see thee, and view thy beauty, that they will say, This is his wife; and they will kill me, and thee will keep alive.
 
GENESIS 12:13
JPS 12:13 Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister; that it may be well with me for thy sake, and that my soul may live because of thee.'
ONK 12:13 Say now, thou art my sister, that it may be well with me through thee, and my life may be preserved through thy words.

JPS 12:14 And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair.

GENESIS 12:17
JPS 12:17 And the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram's wife.
ONK 12:17 And the Lord brought upon Pharaoh great plagues, and upon the men of his house, for the affair of Sara the wife of Abram.
PAL 12:17 And the Word of the Lord sent great plagues against Pharoh and the men of his house, on account of Sara, Abram's wife.

JPS 12:18 And Pharaoh called Abram, and said: 'What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?
ONK 12:18 And Pharaoh called Abram and said, What is this that thou hast done to me? Why didst thou not show me that she is thy wife?
PAL 12:18 And Pharoh called Abram, and said, What is this that thou hast done to me?
 
GENESIS 12:19
JPS 12:19 Why saidst thou: She is my sister? so that I took her to be my wife; now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way.'
ONK 12:19 Why saidst thou, She is my sister,—so that I would have taken her to me to wife? And now, behold thy wife: take, and go.
PAL 12:19 Why saidst thou, She is my sister? When I would take her to me to wife, plagues were at once sent against me, and I went not unto her. And now behold thy wife, take (her) and go.

JPS 12:20 And Pharaoh gave men charge concerning him; and they brought him on the way, and his wife, and all that he had.
