Isaiah 22:1
JPS 22:1 1 The burden concerning the Valley of Vision. What aileth thee now, that thou art wholly gone up to the housetops,
TJBU 22:1 THE BURDEN OF THE PROPHECY CONCERNING THE CITY THAT DWELLETH IN THE VALLEY, OF WHICH THE PROPHETS PROPHESIED. What aileth you here, that all of you are gone up to the house-tops?
 
Isaiah 22:2
JPS 22:2 Thou that art full of uproar, a tumultuous city, a joyous town? Thy slain are not slain with the sword, nor dead in battle.
TJBU 22:2 On account of the tumult wherewith the praiseworthy, the fortified, the joyous city is filled. Thy slain were not slain by the sword, neither did they die in battle.
 
Isaiah 22:3
JPS 22:3 All thy rulers are fled together, Without the bow they are bound; All that are found of thee are bound together, they are fled afar off.
TJBU 22:3 All thy rulers hare been led forth; from before the bent bow, they are gone into captivity together: all that were found in thee have been slain, together they have fled afar.
 
Isaiah 22:4
JPS 22:4 Therefore said I: 'Look away from me, I will weep bitterly; Strain not to comfort me, for the destruction of the daughter of my people.'
TJBU 22:4 Wherefore I said: Leave off from me, I will weep bitterly, seek ye not to comfort me for the desolation of the congregation of my people.
 
Isaiah 22:5
JPS 22:5 For it is a day of trouble, and of trampling, and of perplexity, From the Lord, the GOD of hosts, in the Valley of Vision; Kir shouting, and Shoa at the mount.
TJBU 22:5 For it is a day of tumult, and of treading under foot, and of slaughter before the Lord, the God of hosts, against the city that dwelleth in the valley, against which the prophets prophesied, They search the houses, they encompass the towers which are on the tops of the mountains.
 
Isaiah 22:6
JPS 22:6 And Elam bore the quiver, with troops of men, even horsemen; And Kir uncovered the shield.
TJBU 22:6 And the Elamites have taken arms in the chariot of a man, and with him are a couple of horsemen, and on the wall they hang the shields.
 
Isaiah 22:7
JPS 22:7 And it came to pass, when thy choicest valleys were full of chariots, And the horsemen set themselves in array at the gate,
TJBU 22:7 And it shall come to pass that the most beautiful of thy valleys shall be filled with chariots; and the horsemen shall be set against the gates.
 
Isaiah 22:8
JPS 22:8 And the covering of Judah was laid bare, that thou didst look in that day to the armour in the house of the forest.
TJBU 22:8 And he shall discover the covering of Judah, and he shall look at that time upon the arms of the house of the treasury of the sanctuary.

JPS 22:9 And ye saw the breaches of the city of David, that they were many; and ye gathered together the waters of the lower pool.
TJBU 22:9 And the breaches of the city of David ye shall see, because they are many; and ye shall gather together the people to the lower pool.
 
Isaiah 22:10
JPS 22:10 And ye numbered the houses of Jerusalem, and ye broke down the houses to fortify the wall;
TJBU 22:10 And ye shall number the houses of Jerusa lem, and ye shall break down the houses to fortify the wall.
 
Isaiah 22:11
JPS 22:11 ye made also a basin between the two walls for the water of the old pool— But ye looked not unto Him that had done this, Neither had ye respect unto Him that fashioned it long ago.
TJBU 22:11 And ye shall make a lake between the walls of the water of the old pool: but ye have not looked unto the maker thereof, neither had re spect unto him that created it of old.
 
Isaiah 22:12
JPS 22:12 And in that day did the Lord, the GOD of hosts, call To weeping, and to lamentation, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth;
TJBU 22:12 And the prophet of the Lord, the God, the God of hosts, called in that day to weeping, and to mourning, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth:
 
Isaiah 22:13
JPS 22:13 And behold joy and gladness, Slaying oxen and killing sheep, Eating flesh and drinking wine— 'Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die!'
TJBU 22:13 But, behold, joy and gladness; they say, Let us slay oxen, and kill sheep, we will eat flesh, ve will drink wine; let us eat, and drink, since we shall die, and not live.
 
Isaiah 22:14
JPS 22:14 And the LORD of hosts revealed Himself in mine ears: Surely this iniquity shall not be expiated by you till ye die, Saith the Lord, the GOD of hosts.
TJBU 22:14 The prophet said, with mine ears I was hearing when this was decreed from before the Lord of hosts, namely, that this your iniquity shall not be forgiven you till you die the second death, said the Lord, the God, the God of hosts.
 
Isaiah 22:15
JPS 22:15 Thus saith the Lord, the GOD of hosts: Go, get thee unto this steward, Even unto Shebna, who is over the house:
TJBU 22:15 Thus said the Lord, the God, the God of hosts. Come, go to this ruler, even to Shebna, who is appointed over the house.
 
Isaiah 22:16
JPS 22:16 What hast thou here, and whom hast thou here, That thou hast hewed thee out here a sepulchre, Thou that hewest thee out a sepulchre on high, And gravest a habitation for thyself in the rock?
TJBU 22:16 And thou shalt say to him. What hast thou here? and what hast thou here, that thou hast prepared for thyself here a place? — He hath prepared on high his place! he hath put in the rock the place of his habitation!
 
Isaiah 22:17
JPS 22:17 Behold, the LORD will hurl thee up and down with a man's throw; Yea, He will wind thee round and round;
TJBU 22:17 Behold, the Lord will cast thee out with a mighty casting out, and confusion shall cover thee.
 
Isaiah 22:18
JPS 22:18 He will violently roll and toss thee Like a ball into a large country; There shalt thou die, and there shall be the chariots of thy glory, Thou shame of the lord's house.
TJBU 22:18 He shall take away from thee thy tiara, and the enemies shall enclose thee, like a surrounding wall, and they shall lead thee into captivity into a spacious country, there thou shalt die, and thither the chariots of thy glory shall return in disgrace, because thou hast not preserved the honour of thy master's house.
 
Isaiah 22:19
JPS 22:19 And I will thrust thee from thy post, And from thy station shalt thou be pulled down.
TJBU 22:19 And I will thrust thee down firpm thy station, and I will divest thee of thy office.

JPS 22:20 And it shall come to pass in that day, That I will call my servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah;
TJBU 22:20 And it shall come to pass at that time, that , I will make my servant Eliakim great, the son of Hilkiah.
 
Isaiah 22:21
JPS 22:21 And I will clothe him with thy robe, And bind him with thy girdle, And I will commit thy government into his hand; And he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah.
TJBU 22:21 And I will clothe him with thy robe, and with thy girdle I will gird him, and I will commit thy government into his hand, and he shall be a prince to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah.
 
Isaiah 22:22
JPS 22:22 And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; And he shall open, and none shall shut; And he shall shut, and none shall open.
TJBU 22:22 And I will place the key of the house of the sanctuary, and the government of the house of David, in his hand; and he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.
 
Isaiah 22:23
JPS 22:23 And I will fasten him as a peg in a sure place; And he shall be for a throne of honour to his father's house.
TJBU 22:23 And I will appoint him a faithful chief governor, an officer in a firm place, and he shall be for a glorious throne to his father's house.
 
Isaiah 22:24
JPS 22:24 And they shall hang upon him all the glory of his father's house, the offspring and the issue, all vessels of small quantity, from the vessels of cups even to all the vessels of flagons.
TJBU 22:24 All the nobles of his father's house shall rest themselves upon him, children, and children's children, from young men to little ones, from the priests clothed with the ephod to the Levites that are holding the lyres.
 
Isaiah 22:25
JPS 22:25 In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, shall the peg that was fastened in a sure place give way; and it shall be hewn down, and fall, and the burden that was upon it shall be cut off; for the LORD hath spoken it.
TJBU 22:25 At that time, saith the Lord of hosts, there shall be removed the faithful chief governor, who ministered in a firm place, and he shall be cut off, and he shall fall: and there shall be accomplished the burden of prophecy, which was conceming him; because the Word of the Lord hath so decreed it.
