Isaiah 24:1
JPS 24:1 Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty and maketh it waste, And turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof.
TJBU 24:1 Behold, the Lord shall spoil the land and deliver it over to the enemy; and confusion shall cover the faces of the princes, because they have transgressed the law, and scattered its inhabitants.
 
Isaiah 24:2
JPS 24:2 And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; As with the servant, so with his master; As with the maid, so with her mistress; As with the buyer, so with the seller; As with the lender, so with the borrower; As with the creditor, so with the debtor.
TJBU 24:2 And it shall be, as with the laity, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the handmaid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the borrower, so with the lender: as with the giver of usury, so with the usurer.
 
Isaiah 24:3
JPS 24:3 The earth shall be utterly emptied, and clean despoiled; For the LORD hath spoken this word.
TJBU 24:3 The land shall be utterly destroyed, it shall be utterly trampled under foot; for the Lord hath spoken this word.
 
Isaiah 24:4
JPS 24:4 The earth fainteth and fadeth away, The world faileth and fadeth away, The lofty people of the earth do fail.
TJBU 24:4 The land mourneth, it is laid desolate; the world is laid waste, it is laid desolate: the strength of the people of the land hath come to an end.
 
Isaiah 24:5
JPS 24:5 The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; Because they have transgressed the laws, violated the statute, Broken the everlasting covenant.
TJBU 24:5 The land hath become guilty beneath her in habitants, because they have transgressed the law, and they have made the festivals to cease, they have changed the everlasting covenant.
 
Isaiah 24:6
JPS 24:6 Therefore hath a curse devoured the earth, And they that dwell therein are found guilty; Therefore the inhabitants of the earth waste away, And men are left few.
TJBU 24:6 Because of perjury the land hath become a desert, and all the inhabitants in it are laid desolate: therefore are the inhabitants of the land destroyed, and the men that are left are but few.
 
Isaiah 24:7
JPS 24:7 The new wine faileth, the vine fadeth; All the merry-hearted do sigh.
TJBU 24:7 All that drink wine mourn, because the vines are broken down, all the merry-hearted sigh.
 
Isaiah 24:8
JPS 24:8 The mirth of tabrets ceaseth, The noise of them that rejoice endeth, The joy of the harp ceaseth.
TJBU 24:8 The mirth of tabrets ceaseth; the tumultu ous assembly of the mighty is restrained, the joy of the harp ceaseth.
 
Isaiah 24:9
JPS 24:9 They drink not wine with a song; Strong drink is bitter to them that drink it.
TJBU 24:9 They shall no more drink wine with songs; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it.
 
Isaiah 24:10
JPS 24:10 Broken down is the city of wasteness; Every house is shut up, that none may come in.
TJBU 24:10 Their city is broken down, and laid deso late: all their houses are shut up, so that no one can enter.
 
Isaiah 24:11
JPS 24:11 There is a crying in the streets amidst the wine; All joy is darkened, The mirth of the land is gone.
TJBU 24:11 They cry for wine in the streets; all joy is ended: all gladness is removed from the land.
 
Isaiah 24:12
JPS 24:12 In the city is left desolation, And the gate is smitten unto ruin.
TJBU 24:12 Desolation is left in the city, and there is a tumult in the destruction of the gates.
 
Isaiah 24:13
JPS 24:13 For thus shall it be in the midst of the earth, among the peoples, As at the beating of an olive-tree, As at the gleanings when the vintage is done.
TJBU 24:13 When thus the righteous shall be left alone in the midst of the earth, among the kingdoms, as the shaking of olives, as the gleaning of grapes after the vintage.
 
Isaiah 24:14
JPS 24:14 Those yonder lift up their voice, they sing for joy; For the majesty of the LORD they shout from the sea:
TJBU 24:14 They shall lift up their voice, they shall praise on account of the Word of the Lord: they shall rejoice as they rejoiced on account of the mighty works which were done for them by the sea.
 
Isaiah 24:15
JPS 24:15 'Therefore glorify ye the LORD in the regions of light, Even the name of the LORD, the God of Israel, in the isles of the sea.'
TJBU 24:15 When light shall come to the righteous they shall glorify the Lord: in the islands of the sea they shall laud and bless the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.
 
Isaiah 24:16
JPS 24:16 From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs: 'Glory to the righteous.' But I say: I waste away, I waste away, woe is me! The treacherous deal treacherously; Yea, the treacherous deal very treacherously.
TJBU 24:16 From the house of the sanctuary, yea, from thence joy shall go forth to all the inhabitants of the earth, for we have heard the praise of the righteous! The prophet said, a secret! A reward to the righteous is shown to me, a secret! A punishment for the wicked is revealed to me. Woe to the oppressors, for they shall be oppressed; and to those who spoil, for, behold, they shall be spoiled.
 
Isaiah 24:17
JPS 24:17 Terror, and the pit, and the trap, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.
TJBU 24:17 The terror, the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, inhabitant of the land.
 
Isaiah 24:18
JPS 24:18 And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the terror shall fall into the pit; And he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the trap; For the windows on high are opened, And the foundations of the earth do shake;
TJBU 24:18 And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from before the terror, he shall fall into the midst of the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for mighty works are done in the heavens, therefore the foundations of the earth quake.
 
Isaiah 24:19
JPS 24:19 The earth is broken, broken down, The earth is crumbled in pieces, The earth trembleth and tottereth;
TJBU 24:19 The land is terribly shaken, the land terribly reeleth to and fro, the land is utterly broken.
 
Isaiah 24:20
JPS 24:20 The earth reeleth to and fro like a drunken man, And swayeth to and fro as a lodge; And the transgression thereof is heavy upon it, And it shall fall, and not rise again.
TJBU 24:20 The land is utterly cast down like a drunkard, she is tottering like a couch: and her sins are heavy upon her: she shall fall, and rise no more.
 
Isaiah 24:21
JPS 24:21 And it shall come to pass in that day, That the LORD will punish the host of the high heaven on high, And the kings of the earth upon the earth.
TJBU 24:21 And it shall come to pass at that time, that the Lord shall punish the mighty host that is dwelling in power, and the kings, the sons of men, who are dwelling upon the earth.

JPS 24:22 And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the dungeon, And shall be shut up in the prison, And after many days shall they be punished.
TJBU 24:22 And they shall be utterly gathered for the prison, and they shall be shut up in the dungeon, and after many days they shall be remembered.
 
Isaiah 24:23
JPS 24:23 Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed; For the LORD of hosts will reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, And before His elders shall be Glory.
TJBU 24:23 And they shall be confounded that worship the moon, and they shall be ashamed that worship the sun; because the power of the Lord of hosts shall be revealed in mount Sion, and before the elders of his people in glory.
