Isaiah 26:1
JPS 26:1 In that day shall this song be sung in the land of Judah: We have a strong city; Walls and bulwarks doth He appoint for salvation.
TJBU 26:1 AT THAT TIME THEY SHALL SING A NEW SONG IN THE LAND OF THE HOUSE OF JUDAH: We have a strong city, salvation and mercy shall be established upon her walls.
 
Isaiah 26:2
JPS 26:2 Open ye the gates, That the righteous nation that keepeth faithfulness may enter in.
TJBU 26:2 Open ye the gates, and let the righteous nation enter, which have kept the law with a perfect heart.
 
Isaiah 26:3
JPS 26:3 The mind stayed on Thee Thou keepest in perfect peace; Because it trusteth in Thee.
TJBU 26:3 In a perfect heart they shall preserve peace: peace shall be wrought for them, because they have trusted in thy Word.
 
Isaiah 26:4
JPS 26:4 Trust ye in the LORD for ever, For the LORD is GOD, an everlasting Rock.
TJBU 26:4 Trust ye in the Word of the Lord for ever and ever: thus ye shall be saved by the Word, who is the fear of the Lord, the mighty One to eternity.
 
Isaiah 26:5
JPS 26:5 For He hath brought down them that dwell on high, The lofty city, Laying it low, laying it low even to the ground, Bringing it even to the dust.
TJBU 26:5 For he will humble the inhabitants of the high and strong city; he will humble her, he will cast her unto the ground, he will bring her even to the dust.
 
Isaiah 26:6
JPS 26:6 The foot shall tread it down, Even the feet of the poor, and the steps of the needy.
TJBU 26:6 The feet shall tread her down, the feet of the just, the sole of the foot of the poor, of the needy of the people.
 
Isaiah 26:7
JPS 26:7 The way of the just is straight; Thou, Most Upright, makest plain the path of the just.
TJBU 26:7 The paths of the righteous are right: thou wilt establish the works of the ways of the just.
 
Isaiah 26:8
JPS 26:8 Yea, in the way of Thy judgments, O LORD, have we waited for Thee; To Thy name and to Thy memorial is the desire of our soul.
TJBU 26:8 Yea, for the way of thy judgment, Lord, have we hoped; to thy name and to the remembrance of thee is the desire of our soul.
 
Isaiah 26:9
JPS 26:9 With my soul have I desired Thee in the night; Yea, with my spirit within me have I sought Thee earnestly; For when Thy judgments are in the earth, The inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.
TJBU 26:9 My soul desireth to pray before thee in the night; yea, my spirit within me is blessing thee: when thy judgments are prepared for the earth, those that dwell in the world shall be taught to practise truth.
 
Isaiah 26:10
JPS 26:10 Let favour be shown to the wicked, yet will he not learn righteousness; In the land of uprightness will he deal wrongfully, And will not behold the majesty of the LORD.
TJBU 26:10 Thou hast granted unto the wicked continuance, that verily they should return to the law; but they did not return, all the days that they lived; — that they shoidd practise truth in the earth, but they dealt falsely: yea they will not regard the praise of thy glory, O Lord!
 
Isaiah 26:11
JPS 26:11 LORD, Thy hand was lifted up, yet they see not; They shall see with shame Thy zeal for the people; Yea, fire shall devour Thine adversaries.
TJBU 26:11 O Lord, when thou shalt be revealed in thy power to do good to them that fear thee, there will be no light to the enemies of thy people: the wicked shall see it, and shall be confounded. The vengeance of thy people shall cover them; yea, fire shall consume thy enemies.
 
Isaiah 26:12
JPS 26:12 LORD, Thou wilt establish peace for us; For Thou hast indeed wrought all our works for us.
TJBU 26:12 O Lord, thou wilt ordain peace for us: for at all times, when we restrained ourselves from our sins, thou wast working for us.
 
Isaiah 26:13
JPS 26:13 O LORD our God, other lords beside Thee have had dominion over us; But by Thee only do we make mention of Thy name.
TJBU 26:13 O Lord our God, the nations have had do minion over us, being lords over us beside thee; but we trust in thy Word; we praise thy name.
 
Isaiah 26:14
JPS 26:14 The dead live not, the shades rise not; To that end hast Thou punished and destroyed them, and made all their memory to perish.
TJBU 26:14 They worship idols, who do not live, their heroes, who shall not rise; therefore, when thou shalt visit their sins thou wilt make an end of them, and make all memorial of them to perish.
 
Isaiah 26:15
JPS 26:15 Thou hast gotten Thee honour with the nations, O LORD, Yea, exceeding great honour with the nations; Thou art honoured unto the farthest ends of the earth.
TJBU 26:15 Thou shalt reveal thyself to gather the dispersed of thy people, thou wilt bring together their captivity. Thou wilt reveal thyself in thy power to cast all the wicked into hell.
 
Isaiah 26:16
JPS 26:16 LORD, in trouble have they sought Thee, Silently they poured out a prayer when Thy chastening was upon them.
TJBU 26:16 O Lord, in distress they remembered' thy fear: in their trouble they were ardently learning the doctrine of thy law.
 
Isaiah 26:17
JPS 26:17 Like as a woman with child, that draweth near the time of her delivery, Is in pain and crieth out in her pangs; So have we been at Thy presence, O LORD.
TJBU 26:17 Like as a woman with child, who draweth near the time of her delivery, trembleth, and crieth out in her pangs, so have we been, because we have sinned before thee.
 
Isaiah 26:18
JPS 26:18 We have been with child, we have been in pain, We have as it were brought forth wind; We have not wrought any deliverance in the land; Neither are the inhabitants of the world come to life.
TJBU 26:18 Distress swift as the wind hath seized us, like a woman with child, who draweth near the time of her delivery; the inhabitants of the world have not brought deliverance: they have not tilled the earth, neither have they been able to per form any miracles.
 
Isaiah 26:19
JPS 26:19 Thy dead shall live, my dead bodies shall arise— Awake and sing, ye that dwell in the dust— For Thy dew is as the dew of light, And the earth shall bring to life the shades.
TJBU 26:19 Thou art he who dost quicken the dead, the bones of their dead bodies thou dost raise up. They shall live, and offer praise before thee, all that were cast into the dust, because thy dew is the dew of light to them who do thy law; but thou wilt deliver the wicked into hell, to whom thou hast given power, for they have transgressed against thy Word.
 
Isaiah 26:20
JPS 26:20 Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, And shut thy doors about thee; Hide thyself for a little moment, Until the indignation be overpast.
TJBU 26:20 Come, my people; produce for thyself good works, which shall protect thee in the time of distress: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the curse shall have passed away.
 
Isaiah 26:21
JPS 26:21 For, behold, the LORD cometh forth out of His place To visit upon the inhabitants of the earth their iniquity; The earth also shall disclose her blood, And shall no more cover her slain.
TJBU 26:21 For, behold, the Lord is revealing himself from the place of his Shekinah, to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their sins; and the earth shall disclose the innocent blood that was shed in her, and shall no more cover her slain.
