Isaiah 30:1
JPS 30:1 Woe to the rebellious children, saith the LORD, That take counsel, but not of Me; And that form projects, but not of My spirit, That they may add sin to sin;
TJBU 30:1 Woe unto the rebellious children, saith the Lord, who take counsel, but not of my Word, who consult a consultation, but do not ask my prophets, that they may add sin unto the sins of their soul.
 
Isaiah 30:2
JPS 30:2 That walk to go down into Egypt, And have not asked at My mouth; To take refuge in the stronghold of Pharaoh, And to take shelter in the shadow of Egypt!
TJBU 30:2 Who go to descend into Egypt, but ask not the words of my prophets: to strengthen them selves with the strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt.
 
Isaiah 30:3
JPS 30:3 Therefore shall the stronghold of Pharaoh turn to your shame, And the shelter in the shadow of Egypt to your confusion.
TJBU 30:3 Therefore the strength of Pharaoh shall be unto you for confusion; and confidence in the shadow of Egypt for disgrace.
 
Isaiah 30:4
JPS 30:4 For his princes are at Zoan, And his ambassadors are come to Hanes.
TJBU 30:4 For their princes were in Tanes, and their messengers have reached Taphnes.
 
Isaiah 30:5
JPS 30:5 They shall all be ashamed of a people that cannot profit them, That are not a help nor profit, But a shame, and also a reproach.
TJBU 30:5 All of them go unto a people to be con founded, a people that shall not profit them, who shall be of no help, and of no profit, but for a confusion, and reproaches.
 
Isaiah 30:6
JPS 30:6 The burden of the beasts of the South. Through the land of trouble and anguish, From whence come the lioness and the lion, The viper and flying serpent, They carry their riches upon the shoulders of young asses, And their treasures upon the humps of camels, To a people that shall not profit them.
TJBU 30:6 They carry upon their beasts of burden on the way southward, into a land of oppression and distress, a place of the lion, and the whelps of the lionesses, and serpents, and of the flying basilisks — they carry upon the shoulders of their young cattle their treasures, and they bring upon the bunches of camels whatever is in their trea suries unto a people, that shall not profit them.
 
Isaiah 30:7
JPS 30:7 For Egypt helpeth in vain, and to no purpose; Therefore have I called her Arrogancy that sitteth still.
TJBU 30:7 And as for the Egyptians, their help is vanity and emptiness; therefore I shall meet many of them slain: I will bring armed men upon them.
 
Isaiah 30:8
JPS 30:8 Now go, write it before them on a tablet, And inscribe it in a book, That it may be for the time to come For ever and ever.
TJBU 30:8 Now go, write it amongst them upon a tablet, and mark it upon lines of a book, that it may be for a witness before me in the day of judgment for ever:

JPS 30:9 For it is a rebellious people, Lying children, Children that refuse to hear the teaching of the LORD;
TJBU 30:9 That this is a rebellious people, lying chil dren, children that will not receive the instruction of the law of the Lord:
 
Isaiah 30:10
JPS 30:10 That say to the seers: 'See not,' And to the prophets: 'Prophesy not unto us right things, Speak unto us smooth things, prophesy delusions;
TJBU 30:10 Who say to the prophets. Prophesy ye not: and as for doctrines, teach us not the doctrine of the law: speak ye with us with signs, relate unto us various things:
 
Isaiah 30:11
JPS 30:11 Get you out of the way, Turn aside out of the path, Cause the Holy One of Israel To cease from before us.'
TJBU 30:11 Turn us from the right path, make us to cease from tradition; put at a distance from us the Word of the Holy One of Israel.
 
Isaiah 30:12
JPS 30:12 Wherefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel: Because ye despise this word, And trust in oppression and perverseness, And stay thereon;
TJBU 30:12 Wherefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel, Because ye have despised this word, and trust in lie and oppression, and stay thereon:
 
Isaiah 30:13
JPS 30:13 Therefore this iniquity shall be to you As a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, Whose breaking cometh suddenly at an instant.
TJBU 30:13 Therefore this sin shall be unto you as a city laid waste and made a ruinous heap, as a bending wall, whose breaking cometh very sud denly.
 
Isaiah 30:14
JPS 30:14 And He shall break it as a potter's vessel is broken, Breaking it in pieces without sparing; So that there shall not be found among the pieces thereof a sherd To take fire from the hearth, Or to take water out of the cistern.
TJBU 30:14 And its breaking shall be as the breaking of a potter's vessel of clay, who is breaking it without compassion, and among its fragments there shall not be found a potsherd to take fire from the hearth, or to draw water from the cistern.
 
Isaiah 30:15
JPS 30:15 For thus said the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel: In sitting still and rest shall ye be saved, In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength; And ye would not.
TJBU 30:15 For thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: I have said, If ye return to my law, ye shall have rest, and ye shall be redeemed, ye shall be quiet, and ye shall dwell in safety, and be mighty; but ye would not.
 
Isaiah 30:16
JPS 30:16 But ye said: 'No, for we will flee upon horses'; Therefore shall ye flee; And: 'We will ride upon the swift'; Therefore shall they that pursue you be swift.
TJBU 30:16 And ye said: Nay, but we will flee on horses; therefore shall ye flee; and, We will ride upon the swift; therefore shall they be swift that pursue you.
 
Isaiah 30:17
JPS 30:17 One thousand shall flee at the rebuke of one, At the rebuke of five shall ye flee; Till ye be left as a beacon upon the top of a mountain, And as an ensign on a hill.
TJBU 30:17 One thousand of you shall flee because of the rebuke of one, because of the re buke of five: till ye be left as a signal- fire on the top of a mountain; and as a beacon on a high hill.
 
Isaiah 30:18
JPS 30:18 And therefore will the LORD wait, that He may be gracious unto you, And therefore will He be exalted, that He may have compassion upon you; For the LORD is a God of justice, Happy are all they that wait for Him.
TJBU 30:18 And therefore the Lord will shew you pity, and He that is mighty will compassionate you; for the Lord is the God who doeth judgment: blessed are the righteous who wait for His salvation.
 
Isaiah 30:19
JPS 30:19 For, O people that dwellest in Zion at Jerusalem, Thou shalt weep no more; He will surely be gracious unto thee at the voice of thy cry, When He shall hear, He will answer thee.
TJBU 30:19 For the people of Zion shall dwell in Jerusalem; thou shalt weep no more. He will assuredly shew thee compassion: the voice of thy prayer He will hear, and He will answer thy supplication.
 
Isaiah 30:20
JPS 30:20 And though the Lord give you sparing bread and scant water, Yet shall not thy Teacher hide Himself any more, But thine eyes shall see thy Teacher;
TJBU 30:20 And the Lord shall give unto you the trea sures of the enemy, and the spoil of the oppressor, and He will no more take away His Shekinah from the house of the sanctuary, and thine eyes shall behold my Shekinah in the house of the sanctuary.

JPS 30:21 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying: 'This is the way, walk ye in it, When ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.'
TJBU 30:21 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying. This is the right way, walk ye in it, and turn ye not from it to the right, or to the left.
 
Isaiah 30:22
JPS 30:22 And ye shall defile thy graven images overlaid with silver, And thy molten images covered with gold; Thou shalt put them far away as one unclean; Thou shalt say unto it: 'Get thee hence.'
TJBU 30:22 And ye shall defile the covering of your idols of silver, and the ornament of thy molten images of gold; ye shall abominate it, as they abominate the impurity of a menstruous woman, thus ye shall abominate it.
 
Isaiah 30:23
JPS 30:23 And He will give the rain for thy seed, wherewith thou sowest the ground, And bread of the increase of the ground, and it shall be fat and plenteous; In that day shall thy cattle feed in large pastures.
TJBU 30:23 Then shall He give rain for thy seed, with which thou shalt sow the ground, and corn and fruit shall increase in the land, and there shall be sustenance and goodness; and at that time, the just shall be nourished from their cattle, with the marrow of the tender and the fat ones.
 
Isaiah 30:24
JPS 30:24 The oxen likewise and the young asses that till the ground Shall eat savoury provender, Which hath been winnowed with the shovel and with the fan.
TJBU 30:24 And the oxen and the asses, with which they plough the ground, shall eat fattening meslin, which has been winnowed with the shovel and with the fan.
 
Isaiah 30:25
JPS 30:25 And there shall be upon every lofty mountain, and upon every high hill Streams and watercourses, In the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall.
TJBU 30:25 And there shall be upon every high moun tain, and upon every high and lofty hill, rivers flowing with water at the time of the ruin of the kings and their armies, in the day of the great slaughter, at the falling of the princes.
 
Isaiah 30:26
JPS 30:26 Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, And the light of the sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of the seven days, In the day that the LORD bindeth up the bruise of His people, And healeth the stroke of their wound.
TJBU 30:26 Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall in future shine three hundred and forty-three times more brightly, as the light of seven days, in the day that the Lord shall turn the captivity of His people, and heal the sickness caused by His blow.
 
Isaiah 30:27
JPS 30:27 Behold, the name of the LORD cometh from far, With His anger burning, and in thick uplifting of smoke; His lips are full of indignation, And His tongue is as a devouring fire;
TJBU 30:27 Behold, the Name of the Lord shall be revealed, as the prophets of old have prophesied concerning Him: His wrath is mighty, and too heavy to bear. His curse shall go forth from before Him upon the wicked, and His word as a consimiing fire.
 
Isaiah 30:28
JPS 30:28 And His breath is as an overflowing stream, That divideth even unto the neck, To sift the nations with the sieve of destruction; And a bridle that causeth to err shall be in the jaws of the peoples.
TJBU 30:28 And His word is as an overwhelming river reaching unto the neck: He shall slay the mighty; He will assuredly agitate the nations with the agitation of vanity: and there shall be a bridle of error in the jaws of the people.
 
Isaiah 30:29
JPS 30:29 Ye shall have a song As in the night when a feast is hallowed; And gladness of heart, as when one goeth with the pipe To come into the mountain of the LORD, to the Rock of Israel.
TJBU 30:29 Ye shall have a song as in the night, as in the night when the festival is sanctified with joy of heart, as when they march with thanksgivings and the pipe, to enter the holy mountain of the Lord, to appear before the mighty One of Israel.
 
Isaiah 30:30
JPS 30:30 And the LORD will cause His glorious voice to be heard, And will show the lighting down of His arm, With furious anger, and the flame of a devouring fire, With a bursting of clouds, and a storm of rain, and hailstones.
TJBU 30:30 And the Lord shall proclaim the brightness of the voice of His Word, and He shall reveal the strength of His arm in the fury of His anger, and in flames of fire, destroying the graven images with scattering, and storm, and hailstones.
 
Isaiah 30:31
JPS 30:31 For through the voice of the LORD shall Asshur be dismayed, The rod with which He smote.
TJBU 30:31 For through the voice of the Word of the Lord the Assyrian shall be broken, he that smote by his power.
 
Isaiah 30:32
JPS 30:32 And in every place where the appointed staff shall pass, Which the LORD shall lay upon him, It shall be with tabrets and harps; And in battles of wielding will He fight with them.
TJBU 30:32 And it shall come to pass, that the Lord shall cause to rest the vengeance of His might in every pass of their princes and mighty ones, even amongst them. The house of Israel shall praise with tabrets and harps, because of the mighty war which shall be waged for them against the people.
 
Isaiah 30:33
JPS 30:33 For a hearth is ordered of old; Yea, for the king it is prepared, Deep and large; The pile thereof is fire and much wood; The breath of the LORD, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it.
TJBU 30:33 For hell is made ready from eternity on account of their sins; yea, the eternal King hath prepared it deep and wide: a fiery pyre as of abundance of fuel bums in it: the Word of the Lord, like an overwhelming torrent of brimstone, shall kindle it.
