Isaiah 41:1
JPS 41:1 Keep silence before Me, O islands, And let the peoples renew their strength; Let them draw near, then let them speak; Let us come near together to judgment.
TJBU 41:1 Listen unto my word, ye islands, and let the kingdoms increase their strength: let them come nigh, then let them speak; let us approach one another for judgment.
 
Isaiah 41:2
JPS 41:2 Who hath raised up one from the east, At whose steps victory attendeth? He giveth nations before him, And maketh him rule over kings; His sword maketh them as the dust, His bow as the driven stubble.
TJBU 41:2 Who openly brought Abraham from the east? He brought the chosen of the righteous in truth to his place. He delivered up nations before him, and broke in pieces mighty kings, he cast the slain down like the dust before his sword, and he pursued them like stubble before his bow.
 
Isaiah 41:3
JPS 41:3 He pursueth them, and passeth on safely; The way with his feet he treadeth not.
TJBU 41:3 He pursued them, and passed safely by; the roughness of the path shall not affect his feet.
 
Isaiah 41:4
JPS 41:4 Who hath wrought and done it? He that called the generations from the beginning. I, the LORD, who am the first, And with the last am the same.
TJBU 41:4 Who hath promised these things and estab lished them? Who hath spoken, and it was done? And who hath ranged the generations in their order from the beginning? I, the Lord, I created the world from the beginning; yea, ages after ages are mine, and besides me there is no God.
 
Isaiah 41:5
JPS 41:5 The isles saw, and feared; The ends of the earth trembled; They drew near, and came.
TJBU 41:5 The isles shall see and be afraid; they that are at the ends of the earth shall tremble; they shall draw nigh, they shall come.
 
Isaiah 41:6
JPS 41:6 They helped every one his neighbour; And every one said to his brother: 'Be of good courage.'
TJBU 41:6 Let every one help Hs neighbour, and every one say to his brother, Be of good courage.
 
Isaiah 41:7
JPS 41:7 So the carpenter encouraged the goldsmith, And he that smootheth with the hammer him that smiteth the anvil, Saying of the soldering: 'It is good'; And he fastened it with nails, that it should not be moved.
TJBU 41:7 Shall they not be confounded in their works? Because the artificer encourageth the silversmith, and he that smiteth with the great hammer him that smiteth with the small: It is time, one saith, for the soldering, it is ready; he fasteneth it with nails, that it may not be moved.

JPS 41:8 But thou, Israel, My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, The seed of Abraham My friend;

Isaiah 41:10

JPS 41:11 Behold, all they that were incensed against thee Shall be ashamed and confounded; They that strove with thee Shall be as nothing, and shall perish.

JPS 41:15 Behold, I make thee a new threshing-sledge Having sharp teeth; Thou shalt thresh the mountains, and beat them small, And shalt make the hills as chaff.
TJBU 41:15 Behold, I will make you a mighty threshing instrument full of sharp edges: thou shalt slay the nations, thou shalt consume the kingdoms, thou shalt make them like chaff.

JPS 41:16 Thou shalt fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, And the whirlwind shall scatter them; And thou shalt rejoice in the LORD, Thou shalt glory in the Holy One of Israel.

Isaiah 41:17
JPS 41:17 The poor and needy seek water and there is none, And their tongue faileth for thirst; I the LORD will answer them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them.
TJBU 41:17 The poor and the needy long after instruc tion, as the thirsty after water, but do not find it; their spirit faints in affliction. I, the Lord, will hear their prayer; I, the God of Israel, will not cast them off.
 
Isaiah 41:18
JPS 41:18 I will open rivers on the high hills, And fountains in the midst of the valleys; I will make the wilderness a pool of water, And the dry land springs of water.
TJBU 41:18 I will gather their captives from the midst of the nations, and I will lead them in the right path; and I will open for them rivers in torrent- beds, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the desert pools of water, and the land that is a thirsty place springs of water.

JPS 41:25 I have roused up one from the north, and he is come, From the rising of the sun one that calleth upon My name; And he shall come upon rulers as upon mortar, And as the potter treadeth clay.
TJBU 41:25 I will certainly bring a king who is mightier than the north wind, and he shall go forth as the going forth of the sun in might from the east: I will strengthen him by my name, and he shall come, and tread the rulers of the nations under foot, as those who tread the dust under foot, as the potter who prepares the clay.

JPS 41:26 Who hath declared from the beginning, that we may know? And beforetime, that we may say that he is right? Yea, there is none that declareth, Yea, there is none that announceth, Yea, there is none that heareth your utterances.

JPS 41:29 Behold, all of them, Their works are vanity and nought; Their molten images are wind and confusion.
