Isaiah 44:2
JPS 44:2 Thus saith the LORD that made thee, And formed thee from the womb, who will help thee: Fear not, O Jacob My servant, And thou, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.
TJBU 44:2 Thus saith the Lord, thy Maker; and He that formed thee from the womb. He will help thee; Fear not, Jacob, my servant, and thou, Israel whom I have chosen.
 
Isaiah 44:3
JPS 44:3 For I will pour water upon the thirsty land, And streams upon the dry ground; I will pour My spirit upon thy seed, And My blessing upon thine offspring;
TJBU 44:3 For as waters are discharged upon the thirsty land, and are set flowing upon the dry land, so will I give my Holy Spirit unto thy children, and my blessing unto thy children's children.
 
Isaiah 44:4
JPS 44:4 And they shall spring up among the grass, As willows by the watercourses.
TJBU 44:4 The righteous shall grow, and tender and de licate as the flowers of the grass, as a tree that sends forth its roots by the streams of waters.
 
Isaiah 44:5
JPS 44:5 One shall say: 'I am the LORD'S'; And another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; And another shall subscribe with his hand unto the LORD, And surname himself by the name of Israel.
TJBU 44:5 This one shall say, I am of them that fear the Lord, and another shall pray in the name of the God of Jacob; this one shall offer his oblation before the Lord, and draw near in the name of Israel.
 
Isaiah 44:6
JPS 44:6 Thus saith the LORD, the King of Israel, And his Redeemer the LORD of hosts: I am the first, and I am the last, And beside Me there is no God.
TJBU 44:6 Thus saith the King of Israel, and His Redeemer, the Lord of hosts; I am He who was from the beginning, yea, eternities of eternities are mine; and beside me there is no God.
 
Isaiah 44:7
JPS 44:7 And who, as I, can proclaim— Let him declare it, and set it in order for Me— Since I appointed the ancient people? And the things that are coming, and that shall come to pass, let them declare.
TJBU 44:7 Who like me shall proclaim this, shall declare it, and set it in order before me, from the time that I appointed the ancient people? and let them declare unto us the things that are coming, and shall come.
 
Isaiah 44:8
JPS 44:8 Fear ye not, neither be afraid; Have I not announced unto thee of old, and declared it? And ye are My witnesses. Is there a God beside Me? Yea, there is no Rock; I know not any.
TJBU 44:8 Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye also are my witnesses, that there is no God beside me, and there is none strong, except he to whom strength is given from me.
 
Isaiah 44:9
JPS 44:9 They that fashion a graven image are all of them vanity, And their delectable things shall not profit; And their own witnesses see not, nor know; That they may be ashamed.
TJBU 44:9 They that make images are all of them vanity, and worship what does not profit them; and they are witnesses against themselves, that they do not see, nor know, that they may be ashamed.
 
Isaiah 44:10
JPS 44:10 Who hath fashioned a god, or molten an image That is profitable for nothing?
TJBU 44:10 Whoever maketh a god or a molten image, it is for no purpose.
 
Isaiah 44:11
JPS 44:11 Behold, all the fellows thereof shall be ashamed; And the craftsmen skilled above men; Let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; They shall fear, they shall be ashamed together.
TJBU 44:11 Behold, all their worshippers shall be ashamed, and the working artificers are workmen of the sons of men; let them all be gathered to gether, let them stand up; they shall fear and be confounded together.
 
Isaiah 44:12
JPS 44:12 The smith maketh an axe, And worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammers, And worketh it with his strong arm; Yea, he is hungry, and his strength faileth; He drinketh no water, and is faint.
TJBU 44:12 The smith maketh an axe out of iron, and bloweth the coals in the fire, and maketh it firm with the hammer, and worketh it with the power of his strength; but when he that worketh it is hungry, and does not eat bread, he hath no strength; and if he is thirsty, and drinketh no water, he fainteth.
 
Isaiah 44:13
JPS 44:13 The carpenter stretcheth out a line; He marketh it out with a pencil; He fitteth it with planes, And he marketh it out with the compasses, And maketh it after the figure of a man, According to the beauty of a man, to dwell in the house.
TJBU 44:13 The carpenter stretcheth out the line, he applieth the plummet to it; he carveth it with a knife, and he dove-taileth it together, and he maketh it after the likeness of a man, according to the beauty of a woman, that it may remain in the house.
 
Isaiah 44:14
JPS 44:14 He heweth him down cedars, And taketh the ilex and the oak, And strengtheneth for himself one among the trees of the forest; He planteth a bay-tree, and the rain doth nourish it.
TJBU 44:14 He heweth for himself cedars and taketh the scarlet oak, and the chestnut, and seasons them. He plants the ash amongst the trees of the forest, and the rain nourisheth it.
 
Isaiah 44:15
JPS 44:15 Then a man useth it for fuel; And he taketh thereof, and warmeth himself; Yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread; Yea, he maketh a god, and worshippeth it; He maketh it a graven image, and falleth down thereto.
TJBU 44:15 That it may serve a man to burn: and he taketh thereof, and warmeth himself; yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread; yea, he maketh it a god, and worshippeth it; he formeth it an image, and prayeth to it.

JPS 44:16 He burneth the half thereof in the fire; With the half thereof he eateth flesh; He roasteth roast, and is satisfied; Yea, he warmeth himself, and saith: 'Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire';
TJBU 44:16 He bumeth half thereof in the fire; and by the other half he eateth flesh, he roasteth meat, and is satisfied; he also warmeth himself, and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire.
 
Isaiah 44:17
JPS 44:17 And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image; He falleth down unto it and worshippeth, and prayeth unto it, And saith: 'Deliver me, for thou art my god.'
TJBU 44:17 And the remainder thereof he maketh a god; to the image he boweth down; he becometh servile to it, and prayeth to it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou art my god.

JPS 44:20 He striveth after ashes, A deceived heart hath turned him aside, That he cannot deliver his soul, nor say: 'Is there not a lie in my right hand?'
TJBU 44:20 Behold his god, part of it is ashes; his undisceming heart has caused him to err, so that, he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is it not a lie which I have made with my right hand?
 
Isaiah 44:21
JPS 44:21 Remember these things, O Jacob, And Israel, for thou art My servant; I have formed thee, thou art Mine own servant; O Israel, thou shouldest not forget Me.
TJBU 44:21 Remember these things, O Jacob and Israel; for thou art my servant: I have formed thee that thou shouldest serve me, that thou, Israel, shouldest not forget my fear.
